Size guide
  • Wrap a soft measuring tape around your dog’s neck where the collar will sit.
  • Leave enough room to slide two fingers between the tape and your dog’s neck.
  • Compare that measurement with the available size ranges. Choose a size with room to make the collar tighter or looser.
  • If you do not have a soft tape, use string. Mark the length, then measure it against a ruler.
  • You can also measure a buckle collar that fits well. Lay it flat and measure from the buckle’s metal pin to the hole your dog uses. Do not measure the full length.
  • Check the fit when the collar is on. Two fingers should fit comfortably underneath, but the collar should not slip over your dog’s head.
The leather
  • We use American bison leather with bold grain and a rich, natural texture.
  • Scars, wrinkles, and small marks tell part of the animal’s life story. These details give each collar a beauty of its own.
  • Some pieces have deeper grain or more visible marks than others. Your collar may look different from the photos.
  • This leather is best appreciated in person, where you can see its natural details and feel its texture.
  • With use, the leather gains a patina—a natural change in its color and surface.
How it is made
  • Every collar is handmade by KowaLeather in our New Jersey studio.
  • We cut two layers of American bison leather and glue them together.
  • We stitch along the edges to hold the layers together and create a neat finish.
  • Both layers together measure about 4.4 mm thick (11/64 inch).
  • We add the center O-ring, buckle, and adjustment holes to complete the collar.
